Support when you need it.No commitment. No fuss.
For when you (or your loved one) don't need a full care package – but you do want a trusted care team you can call on for occasional or short-term help at home.
- Occasional or short-term visits – not a fixed package
- Help after illness, appointments or 'wobbly' days
- A trusted care team on standby when you need them

When you don't need 'care' – but you do need backup
You or your loved one might be:
- Mostly managing day to day – but there have been a few close calls
- Just home from hospital and everyone is saying 'keep an eye on things'
- Needing a bit of help getting out, or around the house, some days more than others
- Trying to support a parent yourself… and worrying what happens when you can't be there
But traditional home care often only offers one thing: a regular, fixed package.
- Too much commitment, too soon
- Too expensive for 'just in case'
- Too big a step for someone who doesn't feel ready for 'proper care' yet
So people wait. And waiting is usually when little problems turn into big ones.
Flexicare: support on standby, not a full-time care package
Flexicare is a flexible service from Abney & Baker for people who:
- Want to stay independent at home
- Don't need regular, daily care
- Do want a trusted local care team they can call on when life gets a bit harder
You can use Flexicare for:
- Occasional visits when you need a hand
- Short bursts of support after illness, surgery or a hospital stay
- Check-ins and 'just in case' visits when family can't be there
No long-term contract. No fixed schedule. Just support when you need it.
Who are Abney & Baker?
We've been delivering a full range of home care services in Bath & North East Somerset and Wiltshire for over a decade, with multiple awards both as a care provider and as an employer.
Our mission is simple: Help people need less care in later life.
Our preventative approach to support in later life is designed to maximise freedom and independence, and minimise care needs.
How Flexicare works
- Discovery Call: We'll go through what support you're looking for and make sure Flexicare is right for your loved one.
- Design Meeting (£149): We'll go through in detail what your loved one needs so we're prepared when you call to arrange visits. This covers a 6-month period and is repeated if you continue.
- Call when you need a visit: For scheduling, we ask for 2 working days' notice of visits, but we'll do our best to be there in an emergency. You pay the same rate as our regular care package clients – no premium for flexibility.
- Review and continue: After 6 months, decide if you want to continue. We'll arrange another Design meeting to ensure we're up to date on your loved one's needs.
What Flexicare can help with
Here are some of the ways people already use Flexicare:
- Support after coming home from hospital
- A hand with washing, dressing or preparing a meal on difficult days
- Someone to pop in and check things are okay
- Help getting to and from appointments
- Support with getting out for a walk or a coffee
- Extra help when family are away or tied up with work
Flexicare is not designed to replace regular, daily care if that's needed all the time – but it can make a big difference before you're ready for that step.
Is Flexicare right for you?
Flexicare could be a great fit if…
- You (or your loved one) are mostly independent at home
- You want the reassurance of having someone to call if things get harder
- You're worried about 'what if there's a fall / illness / bad day?'
- A full care package feels like too much for now
- You like the idea of support that you only use when you need it
Flexicare might not be right if…
- Daily, hands-on support is needed most days
- There are serious, ongoing health or dementia-related needs
- You already have a regular home care package in place
- You're looking for live-in care
